Send-a-Fax-from-the-Beach Party, part 2

Our Send-a-fax-from-the-beach party QuickTime invitation, and the party as a whole, was inspired, in particular, by three questions from the first of the You Will ads:

Have you ever borrowed a book from thousands of miles away? Crossed the country without stopping for directions? Or sent someone a fax… from the beach? You will. And the company that will bring it to you: AT&T.

Or A&PP (Alan and Priscilla Parties) in the video invitation.

When people got to the party, we gave them an (old way) paper map of the party layout, highlighting the three You Will questions, and others (like where’s the beer?).

Partiers, entering from the street (at the top of the map) were greeted by our imported beach (left side of the map):

The beach was alas the only tangible part of “sending a fax from the beach” we were able to demonstrate. Wireless faxing, let alone wireless data, was not a Future that had even been distributed to us yet. We were lucky enough to have analog cell phones. The ability to send any sort of data using “2G” was just barely rolling out at the time.

The rest of the party, we hoped, would be a whole lot more exciting…
